Experienced
NYC
nonprofit
program director & activist available to assist sustainability
initiatives
During
the
last
eleven
years, I’ve served as SVP of Business Services at Long
Island City
Business Development Corporation (LICBDC),
a
business
services
nonprofit
in
western
Queens, NYC. In that capacity, I’ve promoted City government
programs,
raised funds, assisted business constituents, and put together many
networking
and educational events. I am available to assist or consult on sustainability initiatives.
My skills include program outreach, writing,
communications,
public
speaking, fundraising, event management, and organizing. I am drawn to
making
connections between micro and macro; between tangible, local projects
and
global issues; and between complementary issue areas, projects and
stakeholders. My outlook is informed by Post Carbon Institute, the Transition Network, and 350.org.
My record
as a community
activist extends back to the early 1990s. As
a
volunteer
with several groups since then, I’ve
focused on climate
change, energy policy and urban sustainability. In
2008,
I
published a report on how NYC could integrate
preparation for
more volatile fuel prices into the PlaNYC 2030 long-term sustainability
plan. For two years I was chair of the NYC
group of
the Sierra Club. I continue independent activist projects at www.beyondoilnyc.org and www.beyondoilnyc.blogspot.com.
My promotion
of NYC CoolRoofs, the program to paint building roofs
white
for lower summer air conditioning costs, has resulted in the coating of
two roofs so far this year with over buildings being referred to the
program. In the fall of 2010, in collaboration with 350.org and other
groups,
I helped organize the painting of 4 NYC
roofs.
